If you've ever sat in a restaurant or maybe a hotel in France or Germany and observed the majority of English speakers trying to communicate with their foreign counterparts it can often be a highly amusing interplay of pidgin English, gestures, frustration, misunderstandings and shrugging of shoulders often culminating in the hapless English speaking visitor raising their voice and trying to slowly shout their intentions with the usual result of chaos!

My name is Colin Gardner and as a linguist of more than 30 years, I have observed with slight amusement this all too common scene on many occasions.

However, it needn't be like this.....

Good tuition allied to some hard work, a good attitude and the willingness to practise on a  "little but often" basis often bring highly pleasing results in as little as 3 months

I strongly believe that learning a new language or brushing up old skills needn't be the monstrous task that it seems to be in the English speaking world.

Hence I set this website up with the deliberate challenge of  getting my web site visitors to shout less when trying to communicate overseas and learn the "lingo" instead...

I started learning my first languages which were the usual French and German way back  in my school days in the 1970s and have been fascinated with learning and teaching languages since to the point where I have learnt a number of other European and non-European languages as a adult learner-it can be done!

I was also very fortunate through my work to live and work for extended periods in both French and German speaking countries as well as doing significant amounts of business travel to other exciting parts of the world like China The Arab Middle East and The Gulf together with Latin America which resulted in the inevitable consequence for a linguist of taking up the challenge of learning the local language and culture!

The one common denominator in my quest to master these languages no matter where in the world I learned them was fantastically patient, humorous and gifted teachers-my goal and also that of the associates who work with me in teaching you is to emulate these  wonderful people!
